Thing #1

The eastiest thing for me from "Seven and 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners" would be to begin with the end in mind. I have always been great when it comes to setting goals that I want to meet or accomplish. From the start of college I was always interested in Biology and wanted to take my knowledge further with this subject area. What I didn't know is how exactly that was going to happen. I went ahead and got my degree in Biology without knowing exactly what it was that I wanted to do with it. I figured that I would get a job in research so that I could continue to learn in this great field. However, I determined shortly after finishing my degree, that what I really wanted, was to teach people how great Biology can be. With this said, I have now set another goal to reach that point one day. I have set the goal to throughout my life teach others that Biology is not some hainous subject to be feared, but something that takes place around you everyday whether it be from the air that you are breathing and how you process it, to the things that you touch.
The hardest thing that I have come across of these 7 and 1/2 things is to have confidence in myself as a competent, effective learner. I graduated in 2009 with my degree and tried to get a job in my area but to no avail. I was turned down many times for no experience even though I was straight out of college. I lost faith in what I really wanted to do with myself and my life and had to get a job to help support my family. I have now been out of school for almost four years and am completely terrified that I may not still have what it takes to become a teacher. I know that no one ever stops learning, so I must tell myself everyday that I can do this for me and also my family and every child's life that I may one day impact.
